Wipro announced that it was the only Indian IT company ranked in the prestigious Aon Hewitt ‘Top Companies for Leaders’ global list. The ‘Top Companies for Leaders’ study is conducted by Aon Hewitt, a global human resource consulting firm, in partnership with The RBL Group, a strategic HR and leadership advisory firm, and Fortune magazine.
Mahindra Satyam's merger with parent firm Tech Mahindra will take place next year, its chairman Vineet Nayyar said. "It is a process. We are looking at it when to commence it and we are hoping that by the next year, some time in later half of the year, this amalgamation will in fact take place," he told reporters while declaring Q2 results of Mahindra Satyam. Nayyar recalled that after winning the bid for the company in April 2009, Tech Mahindra had indicated its intention to merge. "That intention remains," he said.
Confirming the economic slowdown, companies across the US and Europe are planning major layoffs. However, the employees in India have largely been spared of these layoffs, although most of these companies have significant presence in the country. According to media reports, over 1,35,000 job cuts have been announced by just about a dozen multi-national companies in the past few months in their efforts to cut costs.
Scientists have overcome a major barrier to quantum computing by getting their different components to chat with one another, just like memory and logic circuits do in existing computers. Quantum computers are the ones which use the power of atoms to perform memory and processing tasks. They can perform certain calculations faster than the regular computers. The goal to develop quantum computers to solve problems way beyond the capacity of current ones has egged on scientists to come up with new devices that run these machines.
Google Inc. has spoken to at least two private equity firms about possibly helping them finance a deal to buy Yahoo Inc's core business, The Wall Street Journal reported. Google and prospective partners have held preliminary discussions but have not come up with a formal proposal, and Google may end up deciding not to pursue a bid, the source said. It is not clear which private equity firms Google has spoken to.
