Most of the women found in 80,000 complaints of Cyber Crime

As many as 80,000 cyber crime related complaints have been registered with police in Kerala in the last one year, of which 50,000 relate to harassment of women through new hi-tech devices, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said here today. He told reporters here that the number of cyber crimes are on the increase in the state with 80,000 complaints lodged in the last one year, 50,000 relating to women alone. Most victms of these crimes were teenaged girls and women, he said, adding there was a nefarious attempt to trap young girls to indulge in wrongdoing.

New Bill Gives Obama ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

The federal government would have “absolute power” to shut down the Internet under the terms of a new US Senate bill being pushed by Joe Lieberman, legislation which would hand President Obama a figurative “kill switch” to seize control of the world wide web in response to a Homeland Security directive.
Lieberman has been pushing for government regulation of the Internet for years under the guise of cybersecurity, but this new bill goes even further in handing emergency powers over to the feds which could be used to silence free speech under the pretext of a national emergency.

Mozilla fixes 5 critical security vulnerabilities in FireFox

Recently Mozilla has released Firefox 14 and in doing so it has patched five critical security vulnerabilities and added support for HTTPS when searching over the internet via Google. The Major Security vulnerabilities on which mozila has worked are as follows.
The first critical bug fixed was a problem with Javascript: URLS. Firefox’s Javascript engine allows add-ons to execute scripts  in a sandbox. In some cases, Javascript: URLs are executed without sufficient context which can allow those scripts to escape from the sandbox and execute arbitrary code.

Internet shutdown: McAfee's free tool to help users

KOLKATA: McAfee has just released a free tool to help consumers who may be infected by the 'DNSChanger' Trojan to stay connected after servers are shut down by the FBI on July 9.
The new McAfee tool, helps users easily identify whether they have been affected by themalware and offers a free solution if they have been infected. Domain Name System, or DNS, converts user-friendly website names into the internet protocol (IP) addresses that computers use to talk to each other.

NVIDIA Developer Forums Hacked

Nvidia shut down its Developer Zone online forum, 15 July 2012 after hackers gained access to members' account details. A statement Nvidia posted on the forum reads, "Nvidia suspended operations today of the Nvidia Developer Zone. We did this in response to attacks on the site by unauthorised third parties who may have gained access to hashed passwords."

Hacker wanted by FBI held in India For Carding Crimes

Nikhil Kolbekar, aka HellsAngel, was arrested on July 11 in Mumbai, India. Eric Bogle, known as Swat Runs Train, and Justin Mills, or xTGxKAKAROT, were taken into custody in Canada, respectively Colorado, US. HellsAngel and Bogle is suspected of selling complete credit card details, including names, addresses, social security numbers, birth dates, and bank account information. He also sold remote desktop protocol (RDP) access data that could be utilized to breach computers in countries such as Turkey, India, Czech Republic, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and others.

Global IT touch to spend trillions in 2012

NEW DELHI: Global IT spending is expected to grow by 3 per cent to $3.6 trillion in 2012 on the back of growth in segments like cloud computing, telecom and consulting services, research firm Gartner said today. 

This is slightly higher than Gartner's projection of 2.5 per cent growth in the last quarter. 

"While the challenges facing global economic growth persist -- the eurozone crisis, weaker US recovery, a slowdown in China -- the outlook has at least stabilised," Gartner Research Vice-President Richard Gordon said in a statement.
